SEXUAL PROBLEMS

Sexual dysfunction (or sexual malfunction or sexual disorder) is difficulty experienced by an individual or a couple during any stage of a normal sexual activity, including physical pleasure, desire, preference, arousal or orgasm.

TYPES OF SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION

Sexual desire disorders (Hypoactive sexual desire disorder)- Inhibited desire, or loss of libido, refers to a decrease in desire for interest in sexual activity.Other causes may be aging, fatigue, pregnancy,or psychiatric conditions, such as depression and anxiety.

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Also known as impotence, erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to attain and/or maintain an erection suitable for intercourse. Causes of erectile dysfunction include diseases affecting blood flow, such as atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries); nerve disorders; psychological factors, such as stress, depression, and performance anxiety (nervousness over his ability to sexually perform)

  • Sexual pain disorders

  • Recurrent or persistent genital pain associated with sexual intercourse in either a male or a female.

  • Premature Ejaculation

  • Persistent or recurrent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation before,on,or shortly after penetration and before the person wishes it.

  • Orgasm disorders (Anorgasmia )

  • Persistent or recurrent delay in,or absence of, orgasm (climax) following a normal sexual excitement phase during sexual activity

What Causes sexual dysfunction ?

There are many factors which may result in a person experiencing a sexual dysfunction. These may result from emotional or physical causes. Emotional factors include interpersonal or psychological problems, which can be the result of work-related stress and anxiety, depression, sexual fears or guilt, past sexual trauma,concern about sexual performance,marital or relationship problems,.

Sexual dysfunction is especially common among people who have anxiety disorders. Ordinary anxiousness can obviously cause erectile dysfunction in men without psychiatric problems, but clinically diagnosable disorders such as panic disorder commonly cause avoidance of intercourse and premature ejaculation.Pain during intercourse is often a comorbidity of anxiety disorders among women.
